About Us
Our Mission:

*Our mission is to be advocates for pets and their families, to promote the health, happiness and well-being of pets, to encourage responsible pet care and ownership and increase community resources for pets and their families.


Goals:

* To promote responsible pet care and ownership, help put a stop to pet overpopulation and serve as a resource for pet owners and neighborhoods

 * To protect the right of recreation for tax payers and their pets and expand recreational opportunities for responsible dog owners and their pets

* To encourage respectful park stewardship and enrich the quality of community life

* To raise funds to develop programs and assist the city with turning city parks and city establishments dog friendly

* To assist establishments interested in extending/implementing dog friendly amenities to their customers

* To partner with community organizations that may or may not have programs in place that are interested in integrating responsible pet care, ownership and/or pet emergency preparedness programs with theirs

* To develop and maintain a partnership with City Council, Recreation & Parks Commission, Emergency Services Division, Animal Control, East Bay Regional Parks, area animal shelters, veterinarians, trainers and community organizations

*To take our name and experience and use San Leandro as the model organization to assist other cities with pet advocacy
Projects:

*Develop and distribute educational training materials on responsible pet care and ownership (dog licensing, vaccination, spay/neuter, remove animal waste, control excessive barking and other nuisances, training, exercise, socialize, microchip, leashed not to exceed 6-feet, et. al.) and promote programs and distribute materials for community partners’

*Conduct various workshops on responsible pet care and ownership and pet first aid & CPR to the community (including individual citizens, homeowner associations, groups, schools, etc…)

*Develop and implement a pet emergency preparedness program and partner with ASPCA, CVMA, HSUS and/or Red Cross

*Establish and maintain a dog run (dog park) in San Leandro – an off-leash recreational area (fenced enclosure) where dog owners can bring their dogs to safely exercise and socialize

*Organize and participate in quarterly Park Cleanup Drives and a Volunteer Park Patrol Program that encourages and educates about responsible pet ownership and San Leandro Municipal Codes

*Develop and implement a program to support establishments with dog friendly amenities (water bowls, dog tie-outs, benches)

*Support improvements to all city parks:  donating and arranging installation of poop bag dispensers, water spigots/bowls, responsible pet ownership signage, park benches, trees, etc…

*Develop and implement a "Spay & Neuter" program to help control strays and ferals in neighborhoods and assist low income families

*Develop and implement a pet match making adoption program to help pets find forever families and families find pets

*Design a membership program that will attract members and volunteers

*Design a quarterly newsletter to communicate to membership and partners

*Design a creative fundraising program that will attract donors and sponsors

*Develop and implement an “Annual Community Event” aka “Paw-a-thonÔ and Pet Resource Fair”
